Race Discrimination and 42: Can You Imagine a Workplace Like This ???

This weekend I had the pleasure of seeing the movie 42 with my son and father. The movie depicts the start of Jackie Robinson’s career in 1947 when he became the first African-American baseball player in the major leagues. Can you imagine a workplace where your colleagues routinely used the n-word and refused to work with you? That’s exactly what the incredibly courageous Jackie Robinson confronted. To see it come to life in the movie was astonishing! Workplaces have come a long way from those times. Nevertheless, as an employment law attorney I too often consult with clients who face discrimination in the workplace. Today, much of the workplace discrimination is not as overt and is instead hidden and much of the evidence we use is indirect but it still exists.
